This post requires two responses from you. First, you will listen critically and respond while you continue to become familiar with TED talks. Next, you will draw from these two different types of sources to react to current events.
This is a longer TED talk, but an important one. There are three terms you will need to know before watching Stevenson's talk: culpability, disenfranchise (in terms of voting), marginalization.
There are several related themes that stuck out to me. Select one to comment upon or isolate your own main idea of interest.
* Stevenson says America has neglected the process of "truth and reconciliation" and therefore has not moved forward in ways that other countries who have perpetrated horrible crimes against it's own citizens have, such as Germany and South Africa.
* Stevenson claims that you can judge the character of a society based on how it treats its impoverished and condemned.
* Explore this concept of justice rather than wealth being the opposite of poverty.
* Lastly, Stevenson quotes the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr when he says "the moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice." What does this mean?

Poet Javon Johnson explores some of the same concepts as lawyer Bryan Stevenson did above. Drawing from both, react to current events.
